How to Keyword Your Actors¶
Keywords let you organize and search your actors — for example by nationality, role, status or any label that suits your collection. Actor keywords are a separate set from the keywords you use on videos and scenes, so you can build a vocabulary that fits your cast without cluttering your video keywords.
There are two ways to keyword an actor.
From the Edit Actor dialog¶
Open an actor for editing and add or remove keywords in the actor's keyword field. This works one actor at a time and is useful when you are already editing an actor's details.
From the Actors window¶
You can also add and remove keywords directly in the Actors window, without opening each actor for editing. This is the fastest way to tag your cast, and it lets you keyword several actors at once.
Select one or more actors in the Actors window. An Apply keywords panel appears below the actor list, showing how many actors you have selected.
- Add a keyword to the selection. Type it in the box — as you type, previously used keywords are suggested for autocompletion. Press [Enter] or click Add to apply it to every selected actor. If the keyword does not exist yet it is created. You can also click any keyword in the list below to apply it to the selection.
- See what is already there. The keywords already on the selected actor(s) are shown as chips at the top of the panel. When several actors are selected, a chip is dimmed if the keyword is only on some of them, and shown fully if it is on all of them.
- Remove a keyword. Click one of those chips to remove that keyword from the selected actor(s). You can also Ctrl+click a keyword in the list below to remove it from the selection.
- Recently used. Keywords you apply during a session are collected in a Recent list for quick reuse. Right-click the list and choose Clear to empty it.
To select several actors, drag a rubber-band box around them, or hold Ctrl and click each one. Keywords you add or remove then apply to the whole selection in one step.
Deleting several actors at once¶
When more than one actor is selected you can also delete them together: right-click the selection and choose Delete. A confirmation dialog tells you how many actors will be removed, and how many of them are part of the cast of videos in your catalog. The other right-click actions apply to a single actor and are disabled while more than one actor is selected.
Tip: Actor keywords cannot be sorted into groups or nested under a parent keyword the way video keywords can. If you want to group actors — for example by nationality — a simple convention such as a shared prefix on the keyword works well and keeps related keywords together alphabetically.
