Installing¶
This section covers installing and setting up the Fast Video Cataloger server.
The server is included with the standard Fast Video Cataloger installer and is registered as a Windows service so it runs in the background, even when the desktop application is closed. You do not need to download or install a separate package.
What to read next¶
- Setup Guide — start here. Walks through choosing a hosting option (built-in HTTP server, Windows share, or external web server) and running the Share Catalog wizard from the desktop application.
- Client Setup — installing Fast Video Cataloger on the machines that will connect to the server.
- Installed Files — reference list of files placed on disk by the installer.
Before you start¶
- A
.vcatcatalog file. If you don't have one yet, build it locally in the desktop application first, then host it through the server. - Administrator rights on the machine that will run the server. The wizard needs elevation to install the Windows service and open the firewall port.
- The machine running the server must be reachable on the network from the client machines (default port
8754).
For a quick first test, install the server and a client on the same machine and connect using localhost. Once that works end-to-end, repeat the connection from a second machine.
