Getting started with Fast Video Cataloger

You have installed Fast Video Cataloger and created your first catalog. These seven short pages walk through the everyday workflow, in the same order as the Getting Started checklist inside the program: add a folder, browse and play, find, keyword, describe, arrange your workspace, and finally let the AI enrich what you have.

Each page has a short video and the exact clicks. Nothing here is required: the program works without any of it, and every step can be done later.

The seven steps

  1. Add a folder of videos — indexing creates scene thumbnails for every file. Your video files are never moved or changed.
  2. Browse scenes and play from any thumbnail — select a video to see its scenes; click a scene to play from that moment.
  3. Find a video — the Search window; Ctrl+F shows or hides it.
  4. Add keywords to videos and scenes — keywords are what make search pay off as the catalog grows.
  5. Describe your videos — title, rating, description, links and cast in Video Details.
  6. Arrange your workspace — every function is a window; View toggles them and Layout saves or resets your arrangement.
  7. Let the AI enrich your catalog — image tagging, face recognition and transcription, all running on your own computer.

Where this lives in the program

The Getting Started panel opens beside the work area the first time you create a catalog and ticks each step off as you do it. Close it with Hide, and bring it back at any time from Help → Getting started. The full user guide is built into the program under Help, and is also online in the Fast Video Cataloger help.
