A catalog starts empty. The first thing to do is point Fast Video Cataloger at a folder of videos. Indexing then plays through each file and captures scene thumbnails, so you can browse a whole library visually without opening a single file. Your videos stay exactly where they are: nothing is moved, copied or changed.
Step by step
- Open the Add Videos window. If it is not visible, open the View menu and click Add Videos.
- Click Folder and pick a folder, or drag a folder from Explorer onto the Path box. Include subfolders is on by default.
- Optionally set shared properties for the whole batch: keywords, genre, rating or a link. They are applied to every video in this batch.
- Click Start. Each video appears in the Video Catalog window as soon as it has been indexed. You can keep working, and add another batch, while indexing runs.
Files that fail to index are listed at the bottom of the Add Videos window. Corrupt files and unusual formats are the usual reasons; the list can be retried or exported.
Tip: how many thumbnails you get per video is set in Preferences under Video Indexer. The default is a good start; you can always add a thumbnail by hand while playing.
