What is new in Fast Video Cataloger 10.2
Fast Video Cataloger 10.2 is now available for download. Here is what is new in this version.
We have added support for AV1 video. The built-in codecs have been updated to their latest release, so AV1 files — increasingly common from phones, drones and web downloads — are now indexed and played out of the box, with no codec packs or system codecs needed. The codec update also brings several years of format fixes and improvements for other formats.
New AI image tagging describes what is in your video frames using a broad vocabulary of scenes, objects and settings — beach, kitchen, crowd, airplane, sunset and many more — and adds the results as searchable keywords. Instead of stepping through videos to remember what they contain, you just search for what you need. It complements object detection, which recognises a fixed set of 80 object types. The tagging model is downloaded on demand from the AI models dialog, and a sensitivity slider lets you tune how freely it tags; see the “AI Image Tagging” page in the user guide.
You can now also import your own object detection model to find object types the built-in model does not know. Train a model on your own classes (for example with RF-DETR or RT-DETR) and import it with the new Import button in the AI models dialog — detected objects become searchable keywords just like with the built-in model. The “Custom Object Detection Models” page in the user guide has a full walkthrough from training to import.
The program now stays responsive during operations that previously froze the interface while waiting for the catalog — searching transcripts, batch AI runs, merging actors, importing keywords and actors from another catalog, archiving, and more. The biggest difference is with large catalogs and when connected to a server.
A small time-saver for cleaning up scene strips: hold Shift and click the remove button on a scene thumbnail to also remove all thumbnails to the nearest end of the strip — trim away intro or ending frames in one click.
All keyboard shortcuts now work in the fullscreen video player, including play/pause, frame stepping, capture frame and your custom shortcuts. Showing or hiding floating windows from the View menu now also takes effect immediately.
Trying Fast Video Cataloger is easier than ever: start the free 30-day trial with just your email — no credit card needed. Existing customers get a new customer portal where you can sign in with your license key or email to see your licenses, download your version and manage your activations. You will find it under My licenses in the Help menu.
