Fast Video Cataloger Server Licensing

The Fast Video Cataloger Server lets a group of people work from one shared video catalog — everyone searching the same library instead of digging through their own copy of the footage.

What a licence covers

What it is What you need
Computers Machines that run the Fast Video Cataloger desktop application. One seat per computer.
Server user accounts People with a login on a shared catalog — whether they browse it in a web browser or from the desktop application. One account per person.

These are counted separately:

  • Running the server does not use up a computer seat. You can host the shared catalog on the PC you already work on, at no extra cost.
  • People who work in a browser do not need a computer seat. They need a server user account — nothing to install.

Every licence already includes a server

Every Fast Video Cataloger licence includes the server: an administrator account for you, plus one more user account. Enough to host your own catalog, reach it from a browser, and share it with one other person.

Licences add up. Five copies of Fast Video Cataloger on one account host five user accounts, plus your administrator account.

Adding more accounts

Accounts come in packs of five for $495 — a one-time purchase, like the application itself. Need ten people? Buy two packs.

Buy 5 server user accounts — $495

Check out with the same email address you bought Fast Video Cataloger with. That is how the accounts find your licence.

Most teams need fewer computer seats than they expect: anyone who only searches and views can work in a browser, and that costs an account, not a seat.

How adding accounts works

There is nothing to reinstall and no new key to type in.

  1. Choose a pack.
  2. The accounts are added to the licence you already own.
  3. Your server picks them up the next time it checks in — within a day, or immediately if you restart it.
  4. You add the accounts in Fast Video Cataloger, on the Server page under Manage Users.

Packs add up: buy one now and another next year, and you keep both.

Common questions

Does the server need its own licence key?

No. The server uses the same licence key as your desktop application, and the setup wizard fills it in for you. You only enter a key by hand when the server runs on a machine with no Fast Video Cataloger installed.

Do my colleagues need to buy Fast Video Cataloger to use the shared catalog?

Not if they work in a web browser — they need a server user account, which is what the packs above cover. If someone wants to run the full desktop application on their own machine, that is a computer seat.

We are five people who all run the desktop application. What do we need?

Five computer seats, and no pack. Each licence on your account also grants a server user account, so five copies of Fast Video Cataloger give you five accounts plus your administrator account. Buy them in one order, or check out with the same email address every time, so they land on the same account.

What happens if I reach my account limit?

Everyone already using the server keeps working. You just cannot create a new account until you add capacity — nothing is switched off and no one is locked out.

What happens when my maintenance runs out?

Your server keeps running and your catalog stays available. Lapsed maintenance only affects access to new versions.

Our server has no internet access. Can it still be licensed?

Yes. The server produces a short activation request, you send it to us, and we send back a licence file to paste in. Contact support@videocataloger.com and we will walk you through it.

If you buy more accounts later, an offline server needs that same short exchange again to pick them up — it has no way to check in on its own.

Can I move the server to another machine?

Yes. Release it from your account page and activate on the new machine.
